Meet the Owner
Jeff started his construction career in Bloomington, Indiana at the age of 19. He started with residential concrete and framing and then on to commercial remodeling and everything in between. By age 23 he was hired as a superintendent, building large restaurants in Indiana, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Ohio.
After having enough of traveling, he moved to Atlanta, and then on to Jasper. After building a Mrs. Winner’s restaurant in 60 days, he made friends, as well as partners, and settled in and started Appalachian Development around 1985, then incorporating Appalachian Design & Development Inc. in 1990. Appalachian Design & Development has prospered now for over 40 years, while providing a rewarding career and allowing Jeff to raise a family with his wonderful, hard-working wife, Richie.
Both of their daughters attended Pickens County Schools, and then graduated from UGA with degrees in Engineering and Finance.
As the need for alternative ways to build homes has increased, we created Real Steel Homes as an alternative. From mud and straw to old tires to shipping containers, we have heard it all! We took the best systems from 40 years on the commercial side and moved them to the residential side. Using pre-engineered steel just seemed logical and opened up a huge number of possibilities and benefits. Look at our work. Talk to our customers. Let us design together and build a Real Steel Home for you to enjoy for many years!
